Sure the Alfa Romeo 4C is just hitting US shores now, but I am already looking forward to the next big thing, and so is Fiat R&D chief Harald Wester. He told Car & Driver recently that the 4C's 237-hp, turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine has more potential.
We are only at 136 horsepower per liter, so there is more space.
Sounds like all but a confirmation that a higher powered 4C is in the works. Wester also confirmed that the 4C's structure could handle more power.
The stiffness is very high. The first adjustment would be the brakes.”
A larger engine in the 4C would allow it to compete with leaders in the segment, like the Porsche Cayman GTS. That's a race that I'd like to see.
You have to wonder how much a more powerful 4C would cost though. The 4C costs about $68,000, so this higher powered version could only cost more than that.
